Focus area / Clean energy and electrification

Lower emissions. Keep the operation working.

Turn mine electrification, energy efficiency and remote-power ideas into integrated, commercially credible deployment plans.

Why this focus

The opportunity behind the headline.

An electric machine alone does not decarbonize a mine. Power supply, charging, duty cycles, ventilation, maintenance and worker readiness all affect reliability and the business case.

Government of Canada context

Canada frames clean electricity around emissions reduction, affordability and reliability. Mining applications need site-specific evidence rather than assuming every electrification project delivers the same benefit.

Sources reviewed . Policy alignment is not program eligibility, government endorsement or a funding commitment. Check current terms directly with the responsible agency.

Our proposed response

What CEMI and MICA would bring.

CEMI / Challenge and evidence

Develop site energy baselines and integrated trials that test operating performance, power constraints, safety and lifecycle economics.

MICA / Route to market

Connect equipment, charging, storage and control-system SMEs with operators and integration partners, subject to confirmed program scope.

Proposed delivery roles only. Confirm MICA governance, active scope and available capacity for each engagement.

Where to start

Practical opportunities to explore.

Battery-electric operations

Validate charging, utilization, heat and ventilation effects together with maintenance and emergency procedures.

Remote and resilient power

Assess renewable generation, storage and microgrid options against seasonal loads and reliability needs.

Efficiency before expansion

Find energy savings in ventilation, comminution and controls before sizing new power infrastructure.

Proposed first engagement

Integrated energy trial

See all five delivery gates
Practical output
A metered duty-cycle report, power and charging plan, safety review and total-cost-of-ownership comparison.
Area-specific decision gate
Scale only after uptime, power capacity, safety and cost thresholds are met and emissions reductions are supported by the actual electricity mix.

Evidence, not promises

How we would measure progress.

Agree baselines, targets, measurement methods and reporting permissions before work starts. These are proposed measures, not achieved results.

  • Energy intensity (kWh/tonne) against a comparable operating baseline
  • GHG change (tCO2e/year), with grid factors and reporting boundary disclosed
  • Equipment availability (%) and total cost of ownership ($)

Responsible delivery

Boundaries that matter.

Separate measured results from modelled projections. Include battery lifecycle, backup generation and site conditions; no blanket zero-emission or tax-credit eligibility claims.

For the first conversation, bring the problem or community-defined priority, your role, available evidence and the decision you need to make. Do not send confidential technical data, sensitive community information or Indigenous knowledge through the public inquiry form.
